Federal funding for energy and resource efficiency in the economy

What is supported?

Measures to save energy and resources and to reduce CO2 emissions.

Investments in a total of different modules are eligible for funding:

  • "Cross-sectional technologies" (Module 1),
  • "Providing process heat from renewable energies" (Module 2),
  • "Measurement and control technology, sensor technology and energy management software" (Module 3) and
  • "Energy and resource-related optimization of systems and processes" (Module 4), application as basic funding or alternatively as premium funding with or without a decarbonization bonus.

Furthermore, transformation plans to achieve climate neutrality (module 5) can be funded. Module 6 supports the "electrification of micro and small enterprises".

 

How is the funding provided?

Depending on the module, investment costs, selected aid framework and company size, the funding amounts to between 10% and 65% and is either paid out as an investment grant or granted as a repayment grant in conjunction with a subsidized loan.

The maximum funding rate is 25% in Module 1, 60% in Module 2 and 45% in Module 3.

Module 4 is divided into basic funding with a funding rate of up to 15%. Up to 55% can be applied for in the premium subsidy and up to an additional 10% can be applied for if the requirements for the decarbonization bonus are met.

In Module 4, large companies receive a maximum of €1,600, medium-sized companies a maximum of €2,200 and small companies a maximum of €2,600 per tonne of CO2 saved.

 

Who can apply for funding?

Domestic and foreign commercial enterprises with a permanent establishment or a branch office are eligible to apply.
branch in Germany, the majority of which are privately owned, as well as municipal companies,
freelancers and contractors who carry out measures for a company eligible to apply.
